3. No attorney-client relationship

Viewing this website, sending an email or a text message, or leaving a voicemail does not create an attorney-client relationship. An attorney-client relationship with Darrow Law, P.C. is formed only when both you and the firm have signed a written engagement agreement identifying the scope of the representation. Until that happens, Bren is not your attorney and is not responsible for protecting your legal rights or your deadlines.

4. Confidentiality of unsolicited communications

Please do not send confidential, privileged, or sensitive information through this website or by email until an attorney-client relationship has been established in writing. Unsolicited information sent before an engagement agreement is signed may not be treated as confidential, may be disclosed to others, and generally will not prevent the firm from representing another party in a matter adverse to you. Email and internet communications are not necessarily secure, and messages may be intercepted, delayed, or lost.

5. Jurisdiction

Brendan Darrow is licensed to practice law only in the State of California. Nothing on this site is an offer to represent anyone, or a solicitation for legal work, in any jurisdiction where doing so would be unlawful or would constitute the unauthorized practice of law. The firm does not seek to represent anyone based solely on that person's visit to this website.

6. No guarantee of results

Nothing on this website is a promise, guarantee, warranty, or prediction regarding the outcome of any legal matter. Every case depends on its own facts, its own record, and the discretion of the decision-maker. Descriptions of experience, prior employment, prior representations, and prior matters on this site describe past work only. They do not suggest that a similar result can be obtained in any other matter, including yours.

7. No certified specialization

Brendan Darrow is not certified as a specialist in any field of law by the State Bar of California Board of Legal Specialization. Descriptions of practice areas on this site indicate the types of matters the firm accepts, not any certification, expertise designation, or official recognition.

8. Prior public employment and conflicts of interest

References on this site to Bren's prior service as Assistant City Attorney and Deputy City Attorney for the City of Berkeley, as Staff Attorney to the Berkeley Rent Stabilization Board, and as a member and Chair of the Berkeley Housing Advisory Commission describe past public service only. That service has ended. Nothing on this site should be read to suggest that the City of Berkeley, the Rent Stabilization Board, the Police Accountability Board, or any other public agency endorses, sponsors, is affiliated with, or will give any special consideration to this firm or to its clients.

Consistent with Rule 1.11 of the California Rules of Professional Conduct and related law governing successive government and private employment, Darrow Law, P.C. does not accept any matter in which Bren participated personally and substantially while serving as a public officer or employee, or any other matter in which that prior service creates a conflict of interest or an ethical bar to the representation. Conflicts are screened before any engagement is accepted.

9. Deadlines

Many of the matters described on this site are governed by strict and often short deadlines, including government claim-presentation requirements, statutes of limitations for writ petitions and administrative appeals, protest periods under Proposition 218, and contractual notice provisions. Some of these periods run in weeks rather than years. Delay in seeking counsel may permanently bar an otherwise valid claim.

10. Third-party links and content

This website may link to statutes, ordinances, agency pages, or other third-party resources for convenience. The firm does not control those sites, does not adopt or endorse their content, and is not responsible for their accuracy or availability.

11. Privacy

This website is a static informational site. It does not include a contact form, and it does not knowingly collect personal information from visitors. If the firm's host or analytics provider collects standard server logs or usage data, that collection is governed by that provider's terms. Information you choose to send by email or telephone is handled as described in sections 3 and 4 above.
